Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Claims Passport, your data, and how the vault works.

What is a Claims Passport and why do I need one?

Claims Passport is a secure identity service for Australian class action and compensation matters. It issues you a single Passport ID that links your registration to the relevant matter — without exposing your contact details to the sites you register on or the firms you connect with.

Participating sites store only your Passport ID and matter link. Your name and contact method stay inside the vault — encrypted and never shared in raw form.

Is registering a commitment to start legal action?

No. You can register as "interested" to receive updates without committing to anything. Choosing "claimant" signals your intention to progress a claim, but does not create a retainer or solicitor-client relationship.

Can I have one Passport across multiple sites and matters?

Yes. Claims Passport deduplicates across all participating sites. If you register on ClassActions.com.au and then on another site, the vault detects your existing record and links the new matter to the same Passport ID. You will never receive two Passports.

Privacy & Data

What personal information does Claims Passport hold?

A preferred name and one contact method (mobile or email), both encrypted at rest with per-record keys. We do not collect surname, date of birth, postal address, government ID, or payment information.

How is my contact information stored?

Your contact is encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a per-record data encryption key (DEK). That DEK is wrapped by GCP KMS in the Sydney region. The plaintext DEK is zeroed out immediately after encryption. A one-way fingerprint (HMAC-SHA256) of your contact is used only for deduplication — it cannot be reversed.

Who can see my contact details?

Nobody outside the vault. Law firms, participating sites, and administrators see only your Passport ID, matter link, eligibility result, and summary. Your mobile number and email address never leave the vault in raw form.

Can I delete my Passport and all data?

Yes. From your Passport Dashboard, you can permanently delete your Passport, all linked matter records, and encrypted contact data. This action is irreversible.

Does Claims Passport use AI?

Yes. After registration, the vault sends your anonymised intake answers to Anthropic's Claude for eligibility screening. Claude never receives your Passport ID, name, or contact details. The result — strong, possible, or unlikely — is stored on your matter link and shared with the receiving firm.

Passport ID & Account

What format is my Passport ID?

Your Passport ID follows the format CP-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX — 16 base58 characters after the prefix. It is cryptographically random, not sequential, and cannot be guessed or enumerated.

How do I access my Passport Dashboard?

Go to claims.au/passport, enter your Passport ID, and click "Access my Passport". The vault sends a magic link to your registered contact. Clicking the link opens a secure 24-hour session.

I lost my Passport ID — what do I do?

If you remember your registered contact (mobile or email), you can use the "Check if I have a Passport" flow on the start page. The vault will look up your contact fingerprint and send a magic link if a Passport exists.

Can I change my contact method?

Yes. From your Passport Dashboard, go to the contact settings and follow the update flow. You will need to verify the new contact method via magic link.

Registration & Eligibility

How do I register for a matter?

Visit a participating site (e.g. ClassActions.com.au), find the matter you are interested in, and click Register or Check eligibility. The Claims Passport widget opens, collects your contact, verifies it via magic link, and issues your Passport ID.

What does "strong", "possible", or "unlikely" eligibility mean?

These are AI-generated assessments based on your intake answers and the matter's eligibility criteria. Strong means your answers closely match the criteria. Possible means some criteria are met. Unlikely means few criteria are met. These are preliminary assessments — the receiving firm makes the final determination.

Can I register for multiple matters?

Yes. Each matter is linked to your single Passport ID. You can view all your linked matters in your Passport Dashboard.

What is the difference between "claimant" and "interested"?

Claimant means you want to progress a claim and be connected with the appropriate law firm. Interested means you want to receive updates about the matter without committing to legal action. You can upgrade your intent later.

Law Firms & Partners

What does the law firm receive about me?

Your Passport ID, matter ID, source tag, intent, eligibility result (strong / possible / unlikely), and a plain-English summary. They never receive your name, mobile number, or email address.

How does the firm contact me if they don't have my details?

The firm sends a message or notice through the vault. The vault delivers it to your Passport Inbox and — if you have opted in — forwards it to your registered contact. The firm never sees the contact method used for delivery.

Can I opt out of a specific matter or firm?

Yes. From your Passport Dashboard, you can withdraw consent for any specific matter without deleting your entire Passport. The firm will be notified that routing has been withdrawn.
